At the meeting in Dallas, TX (November 7th-10th, 2019), joint replacement surgeons gathered to discuss the latest topics in joint replacement. There were several symposiums reviewing the latest in pain management after hip and knee replacement surgery. Strategies for transitioning from inpatient to outpatient joint replacement were discussed.
Another symposium focused on the psychological factors that can impact satisfaction with joint replacement. There is growing consensus on the need to optimize patients, get their weight to a reasonable level, wean patients off pre-op narcotics and ensure patients have a caregiver at home for the first 3-5 days after their surgery. We at Proliance Orthopedic Associates are dedicated to teaching at these venues to help educate surgeons and PAs about the latest in joint replacement surgery.
