Dr. Robert Veith, an orthopedic surgeon at Valley Orthopedic Associates, is also the Board President and Medical Director of the Prosthetics Outreach Foundation. In August, Dr. Veith and fellow VOA surgeon Dr. Susan Cero traveled on a volunteer surgical mission to the remote provinces of northern Vietnam. Dr. Veith and Dr. Cero joined a team of volunteer surgeons that treated dozens of Vietnamese children and adults with lower extremity deformities and disabilities.
The residents of the rural and mountainous regions that the volunteers visited were otherwise unable to receive corrective medical attention.
The Prosthetics Outreach Foundation (POF) motto, “Helping the Developing World Walk”, embodies the POF mission to ensure that children and adults in developing countries with limb loss or deformities have access to high-quality orthopedic services and prosthetics. Since its founding in 1989, POF has helped more than 18,000 child and adult amputees walk again. We are proud that VOA physicians, like Dr. Veith and Dr. Cero, are part of this amazing volunteer effort.
